Many of the things I really wanted to be able to do with the device is actually not an objective of NeuroSky.  Instead, the idea is to focus on the device and let others build application for it. You can see a good explanation from an older Video from Ch7 ACB Video below.  They also presented some cool application that run on top of their technology at DEMO 2011 co hosted by Venturebeat.

So I went to GDC 2011 and give it a try.  As you can see in the video I took, they set up a demo where you can take a few puts and see how your focus drifted in and out as you are putting.  Since I have a number of years of golf behind me, the woman monitoring the signals said that I was already doing well, but to wait an extra 1 or 2 seconds before I put once I feel I was ‘locked’ into concentration.  I tried that and sank it.  Not sure that really made the difference since I got 3 practice puts first, but you never know.

Here is the video…

And here is the ABC video.

GolfTraxx… Not as FAIL as the first time… So, semi FAIL https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2009/02/golftraxx-not-as-fail-as-the-first-time-but-still-fail/ https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2009/02/golftraxx-not-as-fail-as-the-first-time-but-still-fail/#comments Wed, 04 Feb 2009 09:49:05 +0000 http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=1091 Read More]]> GolfTraxxSo I went golfing a few days back and decided to give GolfTraxx another go.  If you remember my first report on it.. beware of rant.. I was not impressed.  So this time I tried it at another course in Sacramento and it seemed to work on some holes, not on others.  The only thing I could figure is;  since they switched the front 9 and the back 9, I somehow messed up converting the hole order (which I somewhat doubt since I had my brother download the same app and give it a try.. his was not even close), or they just have 1 hole messed up, and it happens to be where the links link up with each other for a switchback and a short par 3.

Either way, I was still annoyed when it did not work.. but where it did.. the value add was great!  Knowing exactly the distance (well as exact as an iphone is going to give you) to the green is quite useful on the second shot.  1/2 way through the round, my brother downloaded bGolfMemoir and started putting in the data as we played.  Hopefully he will get out there again and get the holes we missed.  Will be curious to see how well that works.  As for me, the next time I’m out there I’ll play 18 holes and take notes as to where it worked and where it failed.  If I can get at least 80% functional, it will be worth it.

iPhone, GolfTraxx, GPS… FAIL https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/12/iphone-golftraxx-gps-fail/ https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/12/iphone-golftraxx-gps-fail/#comments Tue, 23 Dec 2008 04:59:02 +0000 http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=849 Read More]]> So far, I have been pretty happy with each GPS app I’ve tried for various tasks; data logging when I bike or run, remembering where my car is, even logging my position when I twitter.  So when a friend of mine called me up for a last second game of golf in the middle of December, which of course I said yes, I thought this would be good chance to try out a few apps I’ve downloaded for golfing.  Boy, FAIL city, here I come.

img_0023

First app I tried was GolfTraxx.  When I first downloaded it, it looked like a good app. You type in you zipcode, a set of courses show up, and then you hit start.  Great!  I’m on the first tee, and this is what I see.

23k yards eh?  Time to break out Big Bertha!  Whatever.. So I get 270 at the top, but 22913 yards to the tee target.  Huh? Ok, well, perhaps I should just try another app.  I had bGolfMemoir loaded.  So on the 2nd hole, I gave it a try.  FAIL at step one.  It could not even find the golf course.  At this point, I was getting pretty mad, but I gave it one more try..  as I walked to the third hole, I downloaded Plum Caddy.  Since I had to read the description on this quickly, I did not pick up that you had to put the course information in yourself.  Grrr..

Forget it.  Next time I play, I’ll give GolfTraxx another try and disregard all info short of what I read on the top and see what happens.

On the plus side, my friend I went golfing with was have a great round.. UNTIL, 2 ladies who joined us offered him a small drink ( a sip really) from her ‘deadly sins’ flask.  After the sip, he tee’ed up and almost completely missed the ball on his drive!  The ball took off at 35deg to another hole’s tee. Ha haha.  So it was not all bad. 🙂

iPhone GPS loggers for golf https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/10/iphone-gps-loggers-for-golf/ https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/10/iphone-gps-loggers-for-golf/#respond Mon, 13 Oct 2008 05:08:26 +0000 http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=428 Read More]]> Well sure, why not?  I was in Sacramento today to play golf with my father and brothers and tried Path Tracker for a hole. Why didnt I keep it running for the whole round?  I forgot my car charger.  Do’h. 🙂  Worked pretty well although it did not place me on the green propery.

My brother used TrialGuru on a the remaining two holes after I did.  I think he had a some issues on the last two holes as you can see from his route.

There is a golf GPS logging program out there I’m going to try the next time out on the links.
