When you login into any computer, Chrome will download all your sync information and store it on that computer. Even when you log out! You have to actually DELETE the account to get rid of this information.

Direct quote from the Google Chrome site:

Don’t sign in to Chrome if you’re using a public or untrusted computer. When you set up Chrome with your Google Account, a copy of your data is stored on the computer you’re using and can be accessed by other people using the same computer. To remove your data, delete the user you are signed in as.

So there you go kiddies, surf safe!

This past summer Google Australia announced the release of the Build with Chrome online tool. Build with Chrome lets you explore and build a new world of LEGO creations online.

Just select on the map where you want to build and zoom in to get a grid.

Once your creation is published it is viewable by all and may be featured in promotional material by Google and the LEGO Group.

How to set Chrome as your default browser on your iOS iphone ipad https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2012/07/how-to-set-chrome-as-your-default-browser-on-your-ios-iphone-ipad/ https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2012/07/how-to-set-chrome-as-your-default-browser-on-your-ios-iphone-ipad/#respond Mon, 02 Jul 2012 19:03:48 +0000 http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=7476 Read More]]> I installed Chrome over the weekend. It seems ok enough although a bit slow. However, I found that I had to remember to use it. So I decided to really commit to it and set it as my default browser, through jailbreak of course. First off its not fast despite what they say. In fact, its a bit slower. The reason is Apple. You are not allowed to use any other web engine then the webKit that comes with the iOS API. That means almost no web experience will be much faster then what Safari already supplies. Weak. Still there are some nice things. The biggest reason to use it is synced tabs with your other Chrome pages. “Incognito” mode is nice if you need that sort of thing. The thumb pages are good although we had that with Opera forever. Really I cannot find that much to make me keep Chrome longer then the week I plan to test it with short of the tab syning. Have to see just how valuable that is. Then again, Firefox is my main browser, so I’m sure that colours my view. But anyway, to setting up a default browser..

There are two ways to change your default browser in iOS, the first one uses jailbreak… of course. There are a few tools already that do this, but I just tried one that popped up on the great iphone jailbreak feed and used that. Go to Cydia and then tap Manage > Sources > Edit > Add, and type rpetri.ch/repo. Once installed you can go to settings and select the browser you want.

Now if you do not have jailbreak, never fear, there is a way you can kinda do it. Its kinda of a pain, but if you are really into Chrome, it may be worth it to you. A jailbreaker named Jon Abrams has published some JavaScript code that will allow any webpage to be opened in Chrome. You are not exactly opening first hand in Chrome, but if you have a few pages you like to save on your desktop, then this will work.

Following is the step-by-step guide through which you can make this happen :-

Step 1: Copy this Javascript code to clipboard : javascript:location.href=”googlechrome”+location.href.substring(4);

Step 2: Open up Mobile Safari on your iOS device, navigate to any webpage, save it as a bookmark and give it the name ‘Open Chrome‘.

Step 3: Now select that saved bookmark and tap ‘Edit‘ option. Edit the saved bookmark by deleting the URL string from within it and paste in the copied JavaScript code string from step 1 and then save it.

Now whenever you want to open a link on Chrome, first Safari would open that link and upon it opening, select the option bookmark and tap “Open Chrome” which would pass the current webpage to Chrome.

Facebook is blocking people from using Mansour’s Chrome tool for exporting contact info from Facebook. The latest from Mansour is that he is going to try and find a work around.

CRITICAL UPDATE:

Facebook is trying so hard to not allow you to export your friends. They started to remove emails of your friends from your profile by today July 5th 2011. It will no longer work for many people.

New version with a different design is currently deploying. You might have to do exports daily. It uses a different approach, and I will maintain this version. Just bear with me.

Now remember, Facebooks’s TOS is to NOT allow you to export data, something Google like to point out, especially that Google will let you take you information anytime you like.

This should be interesting, but it really does not look good for FaceBook from a PR point of view, but I would think 80% will not care that much.

Neil Trevett

April 28th was the first WebGL Meetup here in the Bay area with a great mix of industry titans to garage developers. Managed by the Khronos group, WebGL is a web-based graphics library that extends the capability of the JavaScript programming language to allow it to generate interactive 3D graphics within any compatible web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

Web3D veteran and fellow Meetup co-organizer Tony Parisi introduced Neil Trevett, President of Khronos & VP Mobile Content at NVIDIA, who presented on ‘What is WebGL?’

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy3uFupx5CM

Henrik Bennetsen gave a product demonstration on OurBricks. Built on WebGL, OurBricks lets you discover, interact with, and share 3D content right in your browser. Think of it as a 3D warehouse where you can freely examine the model and much more. A great site for 3D modelers that want to share their work with others. A proper write up on OurBricks will be coming soon, but do check out their website and the video below.

Closing demonstrations came from Kenneth Russell, software engineer at Google working on support for WebGL and related 3D graphics technologies in the Chrome browser. Kenneth shared a variety of WebGL demos from this site.

Kenneth shared the example in the video below to which a member of the audience responded, “that is my demo!” Yes, Aleksandar Rodic was in the house to explain his amazing looking demo. Check it out with a WebGL enabled browser here.

Visiting scholar from Denmark Ates Gursimsek had this nice write up. For those interested in WebGL in the SF/Bay area, join the meetup group and see you at the next event.

Chrome Web Store is an online marketplace where you can discover thousands of apps, extensions, and themes for Google Chrome. It is open only to Chrome users in the United States.

Chrome Instant will begin loading web pages that you frequently visit as soon as you start typing the URL. To try out Instant, you’ll need to enable it in the Basics tab of Chrome’s options.

Finally WebGL support has made it to this latest build. WebGL brings hardware-accelerated 3D graphics to the browser. Way to go Vangelis and team on this!

See the original post on Google Chrome Blog: A dash of speed, 3D and apps. I am off to update my version of Chrome to begin playing with these new applications and select a cool theme.

(I really cannot see GPad after the ribbing iPad has taken). It basically looks just like the iPad except for one thing. Its running Chrome! Funny, i would have figured Android.

Now lets take all this with a grain of salt, its conceptual and so far I have not seen anything to make me jump at the moment. So in regards to our war, the Google Tablet is still at home base, and until it joins the field, the battle ground is still Apples to define.

Here is a shot with the keyboard at full screen…

Google Chrome bad for IE, no. Bad for Firefox. Perhaps. https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/09/google-chrome-bad-for-ie-no-bad-for-firefox-perhaps/ https://www.perivision.net/wordpress/2008/09/google-chrome-bad-for-ie-no-bad-for-firefox-perhaps/#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2008 09:08:59 +0000 http://www.perivision.net/wordpress/?p=183 Read More]]>

I have been seeing a lot of press (mostly those not or on the edge of the computer industry) talking about how Google’s Chrome browser is going to try and take massive marketshare away from Internet Explorer. Ehh. Doubt it.

Given that IE still has a current market share of over 75% and heck even IE6 still have 25%, why do you think Chrome is going to make any more inroads then Firefox or Opera has? The fact is, they wont.

Chrome looks great and with the V8 JS engine its fast as all get out. The speed at which it loads Yahoo mail is amazing to me. So far, I have not found any major issues short of one of my heavy Flash sites stalling out on me. Not to say there have not been problems. On occation, the browser will just hang for 5 -10 sec for no reason. Just when I’m ready to give it the 3 finger salute (ctrl-alt-del) it pops back. Course, its buggy at that point so I just close and reopen and its right and rain.

Chrome will most likely get to the level of Opera IMHO. Perhaps 3% of the market, Maybe 5%, most of that coming out of Firefox’s cut. Soon Firefox will release its V8. Assuming FF does not become even more unstable, they should be able to hold most of their market share.

The telling sign will be IE8. If IE8 can perform at the level of FF and Chrome, then I think the bleed-over will continue at the slow trickle it has been for the last year.

As for the user in me, I’m happy as all get out. As a developer.. Eh.. Still have IE6 out there at 25%. Sigh.. 🙁

For example, if you have a timed dynamically resizing window, it will execute faster.

I also love how it imported EVERYTHING from firefox. The only thing it did not get correct was the order of the bookmarks, but that was easy to fix.

I still have more sites to test, but so far, so good.

Here is the link. Go get it!
